Cool Innovation for A Hot World

IT WORKS! AND THIS IS WHY!

A kit consisting of a solar system and a cooling unit (SelfChill® Solar Cooling Unit) forms the core component. It produces ice from water that is stored in an ice reservoir that compensates fluctuations in solar energy or cooling capacity. We call this ice reservoir SelfChill Water Chiller. The cold water from the water chiller than serves the actual cooling device, eg a cold room or a milk cooler. The cold is transferred to cool the products with a heat exchanger.

WHAT MAKES US UNIQUE

The SelfChill concept is very flexible and covers not only the product itself, but all areas along the value chain. Compared to other solar cooling devices available on the market, the SelfChill concept offers major technical, environmental, economic and social advantages which are summarized below:

  • Self-assembly kit: saving volume, transport costs, duties, CO2 emissions and keeping added value in the target countries.
  • Local assembly and use of local material
  • Easy to maintain since broken cooling units can be substituted and repaired locally
  • High cooling power through the ice storage and compensation of solar fluctuations

NATURAL REFRIGERANT

Most cooling systems use conventional refrigerants that have a high Global Warming Potential (GWP). The latest version of the SelfChill Cooling Units is filled with the natural refrigerant R290 with lowest GWP.

APPLICATIONS

Cooling needs vary regarding the temperature range, the cooling medium and the storage of the products. Typical agricultural products that need cooling are fruits and vegetables, dairy products and fish. For these product groups the following system configurations are possible.
